Understanding Reverse T3

Reverse T3 is a biologically inactive thyroid-hormone metabolite that can be discussed in the context of significant illness or physiologic stress. Major thyroid organizations do not recommend Reverse T3 as a routine screening test.2 Its interpretation, when considered at all, depends on the broader clinical context rather than a single laboratory value.
